Abstract: Hypertension significantly contributes to global mortality, and antihypertensive drugs often cause side effects. This double-blind, placebo-controlled trial examined Ankascin 568, derived from Monascus purpureus NTU 568, in patients with mild to moderate hypertension. Participants received either placebo or two daily 500 mg capsules of Ankascin 568 for 8 weeks. Ankascin 568 significantly reduced systolic blood pressure (141.6 to 133.9 mmHg, P < 0.05) and diastolic blood pressure (91.7 to 84.8 mmHg, P < 0.05). It also improved lipid profiles by lowering triglycerides, total cholesterol, and LDL-C, while increasing HDL-C, without adverse liver or kidney effects. In conclusion, Ankascin 568 effectively improved blood pressure and lipid profile, supporting cardiovascular health.
